MEC promises succesful ward, constituency boundary demarcation exercise
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has assured all Malawians to expect a successful ward and constituency boundary demarcation exercise in the country.
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has assured all Malawians to expect a successful ward and constituency boundary demarcation exercise in the country.
Speaking in Salima district on Saturday, MEC chairperson, Justice Dr.Chifundo Kachale, said that the on-going exercise will bring change to all the constituences, including boast the effectiveness of Community Development Fund (CDF).
The MEC chairperson further said that they are involving various stakeholders to make sure the project is a success.
“For example, we involving Memberd of Parliament, councillors, chiefs and civil society organizations to make the exercise is successful,” said Kachale.
He also said that they are conducting public hearings as a one way of getting feedback from various stakeholders.
Kachale added that they have also chosen boundary review committees that will be able to provide reports and suggestions.
“The committees will comprise District Commissioners, Directors Surveyors General Officers, Director of Education, youth and sports and MEC district staff members,” said Kachale
“The submission of the report will take place on first of October 2022.”
Member of Parliament for Salima North West Constituency, Enock Phale, said that the exercise is so crucial because it will help in the implementation of the CDF.
“The project will help so much having in mind that the areas will be demarcated at a considerable size and the CDF will be enough for the areas, which is good enough for development,” said Phale.
Group Village Headman Seleman from Traditional Authority(T/A) Pemba from Salima agreed with Phale, saying demarcation exercise will really contribute to the development of communities since the resources will be enough.
