Media Council of Malawi Urges Media to Prioritize Investigative Reporting

Mzuzu, Malawi-The Media Council of Malawi (MCM) has called on journalists to prioritize investigative reporting when it comes to issues affecting communities, writes Tionge Hara.

This follows a three-day training program on access to information, the code of ethics, gender-based violence, and exposing the invisible in Mzuzu, which was aimed at equipping media personnel with relevant skills to produce quality news content.

In an interview with the media at the end of the training program, Moses Kaufa, the Executive Director of MCM, said that there is a need for the media to do more to report real social issues on the ground.

Kaufa’s remarks emphasized the importance of investigative journalism in promoting accountability, transparency, and good governance in Malawi. Journalists were urged to dig deeper while reporting and ensure that their stories are well researched and factual.

The training had a significant impact on media personnel, including Rose Cross, a district information officer working in Mzuzu.

Cross thanked the MCM for the training and asked the council to provide more training programs to enable reporters to gain more skills in reporting different issues affecting various communities.
