Minister of Education Urges Measures to Curb Indiscipline in Schools
Minister of Education asks managers to curb school indiscipline with measures including sports, extracurricular activities-Bridget Mwanoka.
Malawi: Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, has called on education managers from six education divisions in the country to put measures in place to curb or prevent indiscipline in schools, writes Bridget Mwanoka.
This includes sporting activities and other extracurricular activities to keep students busy and engaged outside of class, the minister said.
"As you know, the government is doing everything possible to improve the delivery of secondary education in the country, so success requires concerted efforts from directorates, divisions, and all 34 education districts," Wirima said.
"I have been meeting with various sections of the ministry since February 8, 2023, to appraise and familiarize myself with them so that we can be a great team."
Wirima also met with the top leadership of the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), led by the acting CEO, Dr Velantino Zimpita.
The meeting focused on quality assurance in higher education and strategies for increasing access to education in this subsector.
At the meetings, Wirima was supported by the Director of Higher Education, Dr Levis Eneya, who represented the Secretary for Education, the Director of Administration, Mr Steven Chikopa, and the Director of Secondary Education, Dr Florida Banda.
