Mlodza Water Users Association excites MP Lowe

Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe Central Constituency, Lobin Lowe, has said that he is excited with the work which Mlodza Water Users Association (WUA) is doing in his area.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe Central Constituency, Lobin Lowe, has said that he is excited with the work which Mlodza Water Users Association (WUA) is doing in enhancing potable water supply development in some areas within his constituency.

He made the remarks on Thursday during Mlodza WUA 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held at Area 23, Gologota in Lilongwe.

Lowe who is also the Minister of Agriculture said that he is delighted with the improvement of potable water supply in his area which was made possible by Mlodza WUA.

“In my constituency, we are currently housing the dumping site of Lilongwe city and down the dumping site, there are streams and people were using these streams to draw water for domestic purposes and they were suffering from cholera each year.

“But now with the establishment of kiosks by Mlodza WUA people are no longer using water from the rivers and as an MP I am very excited with this development and this means that people in my constituency are now safe from waterborne diseases including cholera,” Lowe said.

He added that government will work closely with all WUAs in Lilongwe including Mlodza WUA in a quest to completely deal with potable water supply challenge in Lilongwe city.

In his comment, Deputy Mayor for Lilongwe city, Richard Banda applauded Mlodza WUA for its commitment towards improvement of potable water supply in some parts of Lilongwe city.

“Before the coming of Mlodza WUA there was a big problem of piped water in locations especially in the constituencies within Tsabango area and people from these constituencies were using unsafe water which was making them to suffer from waterborne diseases.

“Therefore, Mlodza WUA has helped a lot in bringing clean water through kiosks in some constituencies in the area of Traditional Authority Tsabango and many people in these constituencies have now access to potable water,” he said.

In his speech, Mlodza WUA Board Chairman, Senior Chief Tsabango said that so far they have managed to put water kiosks in some areas within his territory where there was a problem of piped water.

“Since our association was formed up to last year we had few water kiosks, but this year we have worked so hard and we have managed to put water kiosks in many areas where piped water was a challenge.

“As an association, we are looking forward to reaching all areas under the association where people have no access to potable water,” Senior Chief Tsabango said.

Currently, Mlodza WUA has installed over 200 kiosks that provide water in various areas including; Area 23, Gologota, Chilinde, and Chimutu among other areas in Lilongwe city.
