Bright Msaka donates K1 million for improved sanitation in Machinga church-Racheal Mkotama
Malawi: Bright Msaka, Member of Parliament (MP) for Machinga Likwenu Constituency, has donated K1 million cheques to Mawira CCAP in Machinga as a way of ensuring proper sanitation and hygiene in the country's churches, writes Racheal Mkotama.
The donation will help facilitate the construction of toilets, as the church currently lacks adequate facilities, and fight waterborne diseases during the ongoing cholera outbreak in the country.
"Churches are places where more people gather, so there is a need to have proper sanitary facilities to prevent the spread of unhygienic diseases," said Msaka.
"It's very important to have good facilities in churches, as they have a lot of congregants."
Charles Suya, the session clerk for Mawira CCAP, expressed gratitude for the timely donation.
"As Mawira CCAP, we are very grateful for this wonderful donation, as it will help improve the sanitation of the place," he said.
Suya added that toilets are crucial in any place where people gather and asked for support from well-wishers to improve the facilities, as waterborne diseases can occur even in churches.
This donation is a step forward in the efforts to improve hygiene and prevent the spread of waterborne diseases in Machinga, according to Suya.
