NSANJE, Malawi - Member of Parliament for Nsanje Lalanje Gladys Ganda has expressed her satisfaction with the construction progress of the Phokera Police Unit, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
She believes that the new police station will reduce the crime rate and eliminate the need for communities to travel long distances to Chiromo Police Post.
During her visit to the construction site, Ganda assured the local people that once the unit is completed, the issue of security will be a thing of the past.
"Thanks for your silence while waiting for the police unit in the area," Ganda said.
Senior Group Village Headman Mnembe also praised the MP for the initiative of bringing a police unit to the area where locals can report matters of security.
He expressed concern that the lack of security in his area and surrounding areas poses a threat to both their lives and livestock.
"The coming of the police unit will definitely reduce the security challenges we were facing," Mnembe said.
The Phokera Police Unit has been constructed using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and is expected to serve approximately 10,000 families.
The police station is expected to significantly improve security and reduce crime in the area.
The completion of the Phokera Police Unit will be a welcome development for the residents of Nsanje Lalanje and surrounding areas, who have long suffered from insecurity due to the lack of a police presence.
