MP Gladys Ganda vows to seek more aid for Cyclone Freddy victims
MP Gladys Ganda promises to lobby for more aid for Cyclone Freddy victims in evacuation centers, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Nsanje, Malawi-Nsanje Lalanje Member of Parliament Gladys Ganda has pledged to continue lobbying for more relief items to support the communities affected by Cyclone Freddy in the evacuation centres, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Ganda made the commitment over the weekend while donating food items to 181 people with disabilities from the Senior Chiefs Mbenje and Mlolo residing at the Bangula Evacuation Camp in her constituency.
"I will continue to knock on various doors in an effort to get assistance so that I can reach out to more people," Ganda said.
She added that the little she had sourced from a Malawian well-wisher was targeted at people with disabilities at the camp.
Earlier, Senior Group Village Headman Tambo praised the lawmaker for coming to the rescue of people with disabilities, noting that food was the major challenge facing those staying in evacuation camps. "The food pack they have received today will push them for days," Tambo said.
Meanwhile, Lytone Sekabe, the director of the Do Charity Work Together Organization, has appealed to NGOs and well-wishers to emulate Ganda's gesture.
He alleged that there were slight segregations in camps that people with disabilities were facing and that they were not benefiting equally from able-bodied individuals.
The gesture by the Nsanje Lalanje MP has been welcomed by many, with hopes that it will inspire more people to donate to those affected by the cyclone.
