MP Ng'oma Commits to Investing in Sports for Youth Economic Development

MP Kenneth Zikhale Ng'oma is committed to investing in youth sports in Nkhata Bay South Constituency for economic development, writes Chrispine Lwanja.

Malawi-Member of Parliament for Nkhata Bay South Constituency and Minister of Homeland Security, Kenneth Zikhale Ng'oma, has expressed his commitment to investing in various sports disciplines for the youth in his constituency to help with the economic development of the country, writes Chrispine Lwanja.

Speaking at a developmental rally on March 11, 2023, Ng'oma, who was recently appointed as Chairperson for the cabinet committee responsible for infrastructure development, disclosed plans to construct three community stadia in his constituency, with one already approved in the 2023/24 national budget.

"I want to invest in the youths through sporting activities, hence organizing frequent football and netball bonanzas. I am keen to ensure that most of the young talents in the constituency find opportunities to play for big teams in the country," Ng'oma said.

He also mentioned his plans to bring former Flames players and coach Kinnah Phiri to help with talent identification.

Phiri, who was the guest of honour at the rally and is also the director of sports in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, praised Ng'oma's initiative, saying that investing in sports is critical to ensuring youth development in the country.

"I took Micium Mhone from this area when he was 14, now he is playing for one of the big teams in the country, the Blue Eagles, and the national team. As such, I will use every platform to help the young talents from the area realize their dreams of playing for big teams," Phiri said.

During the match played between Rocana and Nigeria football clubs, Phiri identified five players who, in collaboration with Ng'oma, will support them to try their luck with the big teams in the country.

"It is these development projects that have made Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera entrust me with the new position as Chairperson of the cabinet committee for infrastructure development because I have vast knowledge and extensive experience in the same," Ng'oma added.
