Malawi-Mpatsa Primary School staff quarters in Mpatsa Education Zone in Nsanje have been engulfed by floods following heavy rainfall due to Tropical Cyclone Freddy, rendering them destitute in the district, writes Cornelius Lupenga.

The headteacher for the school, Jussa Mintrozo has confirmed the development, saying floodwaters arrived around 6 o'clock today, Monday morning.

He said the flooding waters are almost in the window of his house thereby forced to stay in.

The headteacher also said floods have not spared learners with visual impairments at the institution, where there is a resource centre.

Mintrozo has revealed that the visually-impaired learners have relocated to his where still is not good.

The school in question is already part of government plans to relocate to the upper lands due to prolonged flooding of the Namiyala and Nkhande rivers during the rainy season.

Education authorities in the district are yet to comment on the development.
