Mtuli Foundation Donates Cholera Preventive Materials to Schools and Health Centre

Malawi: Mtuli Foundation, a locally-registered organization, has donated cholera preventive materials worth 1 million kwacha to five schools, a rural health centre, and a youth club in the Central and Northern regions of the country, writes Wezzie Mwangonde.

The aim is to reduce the pandemic's spread among students and community members.

The targeted schools had participated in their initial Global Schools 1.5 Max Summit project done online and were also identified as cholera hotspots.

Executive Director for the Mtuli Foundation, Robert Mhango, said, "The pandemic has affected many communities, and schools are not spared because they can also be hot spots for the pandemic. This is why we considered assisting with preventive materials."

The donated materials included moppers, blushes, hand sanitizer, plastic buckets, and chlorine.

Maghemo Secondary School Headteacher, Osward Lungu, thanked the organization for the donation, describing it as a time when most communities were affected.

He added that the school continues to encourage students to follow hygiene measures such as washing hands regularly with soap, keeping the surroundings clean, and encouraging them to get the cholera vaccine.

Bridget Msowoya, a Form 4 student who represented the students, stated that they would ensure that the donation served its intended purpose by encouraging their fellow students to follow hygiene measures on school grounds.

The organization received support from Sustainability Partnerships, a Scottish group.

Similar donations were also made to Mzimba Secondary School, Mpherere Community Day Secondary School in Ntchisi district, Mpata Community Day Secondary School, Karonga Multicareer Academy, Mpata Rural Health, and Karonga Eco Youth Club in Karonga district.
