Mwazisi doing well on vaccination campaign sensitisation

Malawi: Mwazisi Community Day Secondary School in Rumphi district has completed 90 per cent of its vaccination campaign.

Despite the fact that it is a difficult-to-reach area, the school is managing the situation with the help of some sensitization programmes from Rumphi district hospital's healthy promoters and HSAs.

Speaking with Lyton Kamanga, headteacher of Mwazisi Community Day Secondary School, he stated that the school is doing well, citing the positive relationship between the school and parents as one of the reasons.

"In most cases, parents find it difficult to allow their children to go for vaccination due to cultural beliefs and other factors," he said.

In order to reach out to as many people as possible, he employs three strategies: door-to-door outreach, school visits, and hospital visits.

Pfizer vaccination is being given to children aged 12 to 17 at Mwazisi, the district's first school to receive it.

In a special interview with Essau Mkamanga, Heath Promoter for Rumphi District, he stated that the work for the HSAs has been made easier in recent days due to assistance from a specific organisation.

"A right-to-care organisation in the district ran a 5-day campaign by assisting them with lunch allowances; the campaign is scheduled to end on Saturday," said Mkamanga.

Mwazisi has 160 students enrolled.
