Mzuzu Police Say City Security is Tight and Intact, Despite Allegations of Lapse on Social Media

The police are urging the public to bring evidence when reporting suspected corruption involving police officers and to present it to other institutions such as the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Malawi: Security in the city of Mzuzu is tight and intact, according to official crime statistics held by the Mzuzu Police Station, said Inspector Paul Tembo, Mzuzu Police Station, Public Relations Officer, writes Tionge Hara.

Despite allegations circulating on social media suggesting a security lapse in the city, Tembo emphasized that records show that all major crimes such as housebreaking, theft, and robbery are under control.

He added that only five cases of theft were recorded in 2022, with most of the suspects being arrested and serving jail time.

The police are urging the public to bring evidence when reporting suspected corruption involving police officers and to present it to other institutions such as the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

He also urged the public to refrain from sensationalizing security matters on social media to avoid causing unnecessary panic.
