Namiwa gives police 14 days to provide update on his "kidnapping" case

Malawi: Sylvester Namiwa, Executive Director of the Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative - CDEDI, has given the Malawi Police Service 14 days to provide an update on his alleged abduction case.

Namiwa alleges in a letter to Malawi Police Inspector General Merlyn Yolamu that the police are deliberately dragging their feet on the matter in order to protect the suspects' masters, who he claims are connected to the ruling MCP.

Namiwa stated that a month has passed since he was abducted by thugs, but the Police have remained silent, with little progress on their investigations despite disclosing the names of the thugs to them as a tip-off.

He also stated that millions of Malawians are preparing to see that the matter is brought to its logical conclusion because it is not personal but has raised serious security concerns among the general public.

We attempted to contact the Inspector General, but she did not answer the phone.

Namiwa was “kidnapped” on July 27, 2022, near the Likuni roundabout in Lilongwe's Area 3 along Mtunthama Drive, and dumped in Nathenje on July 28, 2022.
