NATIONAL STATISTICAL OFFICE LAUNCHES CONSTITUENCY REPORT

The National Statistical Office of Malawi on Wednesday launched the Constituency Report at the parliament building in Lilongwe.

MALAWI: The National Statistical Office of Malawi on Wednesday launched the Constituency Report at the parliament building in Lilongwe.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Catherine Gotani Hara, described the report as a milestone because it is going to be a very important tool for MPs.

"This is the first time that we have had a Constituency Report because it is going to help us make requests that are based on evidence now: requests like school blocks, more health centers,” she said.

The representative of UNFPA, Young Hong, said, “I’m sure each MP has the ambition to improve their constituencies, and this report will help them achieve that.”

The Commissioner of Statistic for National Statistical Office Mercy Manuka said the reports were ready by the end of August but it has been a challenge to have them printed.

"We have had challenges; for example, we have been working under conditions of Covid-19 and it has been a challenge to have the reports printed because they're many. Our printer has been printing one set for a constituency at a time but it has not been easy to come up with 193 reports."
