NCST says supporting girls in science subjects key to attaining MW2063

The National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) says encouraging girls to pursue science subjects has the potential to help Malawi achieve her Malawi2063 Vision.

Malawi: The National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) says encouraging girls to pursue science subjects has the potential to help Malawi achieve her Malawi 2063 agenda in a relatively short period of time, writes Watipaso Mzungu.

The remarks were made by NCST Acting Executive Director Gift Kadzamira at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School on Friday during a career talk on science and technology.

Kadzamira challenged the students to pursue science subjects, emphasizing that the days of science subjects being reserved for male students are long gone.

"Women develop the community, the family, and the entire nation. That is why it is critical that we provide all of the support that girl children require in order for them to excel in science and technology subjects," he said.

Kadzamira urged Malawians to fully support women and encourage them to compete for challenging positions in society.

Mary Zinganyade, a student representative at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School, praised the Commission for the career talk, saying it will inspire students to take science subjects seriously.
