Malawi-State President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Kenneth Zikhale Ng'oma, the Minister of Homeland Security, as the Chairperson for the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure Development, writes Blessings Gondwe.
In an interview, Ng'oma expressed his delight in being entrusted with the new portfolio, saying that it is a sign of President Chakwera's interest in improving the country's infrastructure.
Ng'oma said that the position was an honour, following the various infrastructural development projects he initiated in his constituency.
Speaking at a developmental rally held over the weekend in his constituency, Ng'oma stated his intention to construct three stadia in his constituency, with one already approved in the 2023/24 national budget.
"The stadia I am planning to construct will help the council to collect revenues to aid in the development of the country and enhance youth development in the constituency and Nkhata-bay district as a whole," Ng'oma said.
In the 2022–23 National budget, Ng'oma managed to construct several infrastructure development projects, including bridges, school blocks, and teacher houses, among others.
He added that the stadia he plans to construct will serve as a vital source of revenue for the council, helping to drive development in the country.
As Chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure Development, Ng'oma's appointment is expected to enhance the country's efforts in improving its infrastructure, according to the minister.
