Nkhata Bay farmers benefit from district's trade fair
Twelve organisations were present, including Temwa, Ripple Africa, Tiyeni, and Lisap, to name but a few.
Malawi: The Nkhata Bay District Agriculture Extension Coordinating Committee organised a two-day Agriculture Trade Fair at Mpamba, TA Timbiri in the district to allow farmers to showcase their products.
Farmers from the Nkhata Bay district were able to display their wares at the Agriculture Fair.
Temwa, an organisation based in Nkhata Bay, also brought in three farmers to the event, one of whom operates a forest-friendly business that Temwa promotes and produces honey.
The honey production generates revenue, and Temwa works with 12 different groups.
The other farmer brought beans, and the other green peppers, cabbages, and Irish potatoes, which they farm using breeding centre manure from the livestock pass-on scheme.
The farmers were able to learn from other farmers in how to increase production, market linkages for their various products, and how to access loans, according to Sera Mtambo, Temwa's communications officer.
"As an organisation, we have learned a lot from our friends, and we are happy," she said.
“We may adopt some of their methods to assist our farmers in growing as well.”
