Malawi: The Nkhata Bay hospital has denied receiving a patient from the police cell who tested positive for cholera at Chintheche Rural hospital.
Speaking to AfricaBrief, Christopher Singini, spokesperson for Nkhata Bay district hospital, stated that the patient was only vomiting and was kept for a short period of time to be observed by medical personnel.
"The patient came from the Chintheche Police cell with symptoms of cholera, but after being examined, it was discovered that it was another infection, not cholera," he explained.
According to Singini, the patient was returned to where she came from, and she is unsure whether or not the police released him on bail.
When we attempted to speak with Nkhata Bay Police PRO Kondwani James, he said he would get back to us after checking with colleagues from Chintheche Police.
