Nkhata Bay Police Station reports 17% decrease in traffic accidents
From January to June this year, Nkhata Bay Police Station recorded a 17% decrease in recorded road accidents compared to the same period in 2021.
Malawi: From January to June this year, Nkhata Bay Police Station recorded a 17% decrease in recorded road accidents compared to the same period in 2021.
According to sergeant Kondwani James, the PRO responsible for Nkhata Bay Police, 58 road accidents were recorded in 2021 compared to 48 recorded this year, representing a 17 percent decrease.
According to the report, 14 fatal road accidents with 14 people killed were recorded in 2021, compared to 11 fatal road accidents with 12 deaths recorded in 2022, representing a 21% decrease.
Similarly, serious road accidents have decreased by 46%, according to the report, with 13 such accidents recorded in 2021 and 7 accidents recorded in 2022.
As a result, Nkhata Bay Police Station continues to increase traffic checks and ad hoc roadblocks in all accident-prone areas in order to improve road accident prevention.
The station improves road safety awareness programs through a variety of channels of communication, including community meetings, media awareness, school outreach programs, and all other available channels of communication.
To further reduce road accidents, Nkhata Bay Police urges district residents to always follow road safety rules and regulations, including checking both sides of the road before crossing.
