Non-Profit Group Donates Aid to Tropical Cyclone Freddy Victims in Nsanje
Non-profit group Friends of Gladys Ganda donated food and non-food items to tropical storm Freddy victims on Labour Day, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Nsanje, Malawi-On Labour Day, the Friends of Gladys Ganda, a non-profit group in the Senior Chief Mbenje area of Nsanje, donated food and non-food items to people affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy at the Nyambesa evacuation centre, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Charles Tchungulo, the chairperson of the group, stated that the camp has not received food supplies for a long time, prompting their decision to reach out to them.
"We have distributed maize flour, soya pieces, soap and salt," Tchungulo said.
Senior Group Village Headman Annie Petrol expressed his gratitude to the group, saying that the survivors at the camp will benefit greatly from the gesture.
Petrol also highlighted the need for food and requested farm inputs such as maize seeds to help displaced people replant their crops.
According to reports, Nsanje district has 86 evacuation camps, where around 41,000 families are residing.
The Department of Disaster Management Affairs decommissions camps after 90 days.
The Friends of Gladys Ganda's donation will offer some relief to the affected families as they rebuild their lives after the devastating storm.
