Malawi-The Northern Education Division organized an event to reward the best-performing students and teachers in the 2022 MSCE Examinations on March 6, 2023, writes Tionge Hara.

The aim of the event was to promote and encourage hard work among students and teachers.

According to Jennings Kayira, the Education Division Manager, deploying female headteachers in rural areas was one way of encouraging girls to work hard.

Kayira explained that these female headteachers acted as role models for the girls, motivating them to put more effort into their studies.

Associate Professor Timothy Nyasulu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Livingstonia, who was the guest of honour, appreciated the effort of the division in awarding the best students and teachers yearly.

However, he expressed concern over the poor performance of girls in the 2022 exams and encouraged them to do better in 2023.

Nyasulu stated that these awards motivated students and promised to do even more next year.

Nyasulu emphasized the need for more rural students to perform better and encouraged girls to work harder.

Gray Matter, a book publisher and seller, sponsored the event, and Christopher Ndoro, a sales representative for Gray Matter, highlighted the company's cordial business partnership with schools in the division.

Ndoro also promised to open a branch in the north to serve the divisional schools better by providing textbooks for learners and promoting quality education.
