NSANJE, Malawi - The Parliamentarian for Nsanje Central, Kafandikhale Mandevana, has expressed his concern over the rising incidents of robbery in the area, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Mandevana has stated that he will soon call for an urgent meeting with key stakeholders to discuss the matter and find a solution.
Three robbery incidents were reported in the villages of Chikhawo, Dumba, and Mthumba in the area of Senior Chief Tengani in Nsanje within a week. Mandevana expressed worry over the trend, stating that if the incidents continue, it will discourage people from opening businesses in the area.
"I will be calling for a meeting shortly, which will involve traditional, religious, and political leaders, as well as the police," Mandevana said.
Senior Chief Tengani also expressed his concern over the situation, calling it sad and pathetic. He noted that it is a clear sign of a security lapse in the area, which must be addressed urgently.
"The matter has been taken to the relevant authorities, including the security agents," Senior Chief Tengani said.
He concurred with the Member of Parliament, stating that the robbery activities will instil fear in those willing to venture into the area.
