Malawi— As schools are set to resume classes on Monday, March 27th, 2023, flood victims who have been occupying school campuses in Nsanje are being urged to relocate, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Kafandikhale Mandevana, the Nsanje Central Member of Parliament, made the call on Friday during a relief maize distribution exercise to tropical cyclone Freddy survivors at Chigumukire Primary School.
He stated that most schools will begin classes on Monday as per the directive from the Education Ministry, and parents and guardians need to remind their children to attend.
Mandevana also cautioned the survivors not to politicize the distribution of relief items, emphasizing that tropical cyclone Freddy has affected everyone.
"All people who are staying in schoolyards should prepare to leave the school premises," he said.
The plea comes as Nsanje continues to grapple with the devastating effects of the tropical cyclone Freddy-induced floods that have displaced tens of thousands of households and claimed several lives.
