Nsanje Teachers Overstaying on Same Grade, Says TUM Chair-Elect
The Teachers Union of Malawi’s newly elected chairperson for Nsanje, Jussa Mintrozo, has expressed concern over the overstaying of teachers on the same grade in Nsanje-Cornelius Lupenga.
Malawi-The Teachers Union of Malawi’s newly elected chairperson for Nsanje, Jussa Mintrozo, has expressed concern over the overstaying of teachers on the same grade in Nsanje, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
According to Mintrozo, this situation is discouraging teachers from working harder to improve the quality of education in the district.
He made the observation on Saturday after winning the TUM District Executive Committee for Nsanje.
"It is unfortunate to see some teachers still on the same grade for over twenty years," said Mintrozo, adding that he is going to push harder for the promotion of teachers to various grades during his time in office.
Mintrozo further revealed that some teachers have retired at PT4 grade after working for more than twenty-one years. He promised to work towards addressing this issue during his tenure.
Meanwhile, the runner-up contestant, Wyson Dakamau, conceded defeat, saying there is only one winner in every competition.
However, one of the delegates to the TUM District elections, who asked for anonymity, confided in us, saying the delegates opted not to vote for Wyson Dakamau because of his relationship with the incumbent Education Chief.
"Electing the runners-up would have been a waste of time as he cannot oppose anything said by the Education Chief concerning the welfare of teachers," he alleged.
The elected TUM members will be in office for five years. Nsanje District has thirteen (13) Education Zones.
