NTCHEU POLICE NET TWO FOR STEALING 2M AIRTIME
Police in Ntcheu on Sunday arrested two men suspected of stealing Zain airtime worth one point two million kwacha from a Zain distributor in the district on Saturday.
Ntcheu Police Public Relations Officer, constable Gift Matewere identified the suspects as Mr. John Banda, eighteen and his Rwandese accomplice, Mr. Uliya Atanafe Mvuyekule aged twenty six.
Constable Materewe said that the police have since recovered forty two thousand kwacha cash and airtime worth three hundred and forty eight thousand kwacha.
Ntcheu police Public Relations Officer, constable Gift Matewere said the two broke into Ulemu ndi Chuma Zain airtime Distributor Saturday night using the rooftop.
Constable Matewere said the suspects removed some iron sheets before getting into the shop, where they allegedly stole Zain airtime worth one point two million kwacha.
The police PRO said the owner of the shop discovered the incident on Sunday morning, and alerted the police about the incident.
After carrying out a manhunt, constable Matewere said the police arrested Mr. John Banda, aged eighteen in Ntcheu, and his Rwandese accomplice, Mr. Uliya Atanase Mvuyekule, aged twenty six in Balaka.
Besides recovering forty two thousand kwacha cash, police also recovered Zain airtime worth three hundred and forty eight thousand kwacha.
Constable Matewere said the two will be charged with the offence of breaking into a building and commiting a felony therein, contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code.
The two will appear in court as soon as police investigations are over, according to the police PRO.
Mr. John Banda, 18, hails from Chibeyo village, Traditional Authority Malengozoma, Nkhata Bay district; while his accomplice, Mr. Uliya Atanase Mvuyekule, 26, comes from Kagamo village, T.A. Nyamasheke, Chagaku district, Rwanda.
