Old Mutual Investment Group hails relationship with MW media

Malawi: Old Mutual Investment Group has praised its relationship with the Malawian media, stating that the media has been instrumental in telling the story of the financial institution and the positive impact it has on its customers, the economy, and the community at large over the past 68 years.

Mr Mark Mikwamba, Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group, made the remarks on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the start of a half-day media training in Alternative Investment, a diversification into non-traditional asset classes, in Lilongwe.

“Because we recognize the role you have played for our thriving, in return, as a way of expressing gratitude, we partnered with the Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi chapter is sponsoring a category in the awards for three years from 2019,” said Mikwamba.

The "Old Mutual Responsible Business Reporting Award" is sponsored by Old Mutual Investment Group, a category of the MISA media award.

Mikwamba said: “ In this award, we recognize the best print and electronic media stories that have satisfied set criteria. As we are now rolling out a new cycle for the award, we would like to have an engagement with you so that we can be of the same mind.”

He said this year the theme of the award is “Social-Economic Impact of Pension in Malawi: A focus on Alternative Investments”.

During the training, it was learned that Alternative Investments provide customers with returns that outperform inflation while also having a positive impact on job creation, community support, financial inclusion, and, ultimately, economic development.

“I trust that through this training and workshop you will understand better alternative investments, you will understand better how pension funds can be used for the good of the pensioner as well as for the nation. We hope that this workshop will help you submit stories that will enlighten many people around responsible investments and the fact that this is long overdue for Malawi,” said Mikwamba.

Examples of Old Mutual Investment Group’s Alternative Investments are Old Mutual Ulimi Fund, Old Mutual Private Equity Fund, and Old Mutual Infrastructure Fund.
