One Acre Fund Foundation Launches Tree Planting Initiative in Zomba District to Combat Deforestation and Climate Change
The project will be implemented in stages, with over 6,800 tree seedlings already given to 275 people in Lipholo village.
Malawi: The One Acre Fund Foundation recently announced its plans to distribute tree seedlings to more than 50,000 people in Zomba district as part of their tree planting initiative, writes Mathews Mwantani
The project will be implemented in stages, with over 6,800 tree seedlings already given to 275 people in Lipholo village.
Zomba, which has been heavily affected by deforestation and land degradation, is in need of tree-planting efforts to conserve the environment.
The organization will also be training communities on how to produce, plant, and care for tree seedlings.
Sydney Banda, a senior supervisor at the organization, explained that the initiative is a tactic to counter climate change.
District forest supervisor Levi Dzodzi also encouraged Zomba residents to fully participate in the initiative.
"We ask them to devote themselves to this initiative, as they are the beneficiaries today and, of course, tomorrow. They are the ones who will use these trees in the future and also they can save themselves from climate change with this initiative," Dzodzi added.
The effects of deforestation have led to climate change, which has affected many people in the district.
