Paramount Chief Lundu Urges Contractors to Combat Gender-Based Violence

Malawi: Paramount Chief Lundu has called on building contractors in the country to resist engaging in sexual activities with underage girls, writes Comfort Bulangete.

Speaking at the launch of the Tizola Maternity Wing construction in Chikwawa, Lundu warned against the dangers of exchanging money, goods, and services for sex, which can lead to the spread of sexually transmitted infections like HIV and AIDS.

Dr Stallin Dzinkanda, the director of health and social services for Chikwawa District Hospital, spoke about the role the maternity wing will play in addressing issues of safe motherhood in the district, while Chimwanjale Ward Counselor Wachisoni Shawa stressed the benefit the hospital will bring to the wider community.

Lengwe Ward councillor Mwayiwawo Dowe expressed relief that the K120,000,000 project, which is one of the GESD projects and will be constructed by Blue Diamond Construction Company, will now provide easier access to safe motherhood assistance for the people in his area.
