Parliamentary Committee Impressed with Progress on Shire Valley Transformation Project Despite Challenges
Meanwhile, Chikwawa East Member of Parliament, Rodrick Khumbanyiwa, expressed concerns about why the project has not reached his constituency.
Malawi: The parliamentary committee overseeing the Budget and Finance for the Shire Valley Transformation Project (SVTP) has praised the progress being made despite facing challenges from cyclones in the previous year, writes Comfort Bulangete.
Chairperson for the Committee, Gladys Ganda, says workers and authorities are showing commitment, and she is hopeful the project will meet its deadline. The committee's visit was to monitor the usage of funding, which they say so far is being used well.
Principal Secretary for Irrigation in the Ministry of Agriculture, Geoffrey Mamba, says the visit by the parliamentarians helps to appreciate the work being done by the executive government.
He added that their visit will help with a bill for the approval of 91 million US dollars for the second phase of the project.
