It's past time Tonse-led administration fulfilled campaign promises: Youth Decide Campaign

Malawi: The Youth Decide Campaign says it is past time for the Tonse-led administration to fulfil some of its campaign promises to the youth, as evidenced by the fact that young people in the country continue to face rising economic marginalisation and distrust in governance institutions.

On Thursday, September 15, 2022, campaign team leader Charles Kajoloweka revealed to journalists that they have planned a National Youth Conference for September 21-22, 2022, to bring together all concerned parties to assess the ground-breaking gains, opportunities, and challenges faced by young people in the country.

He stated that the government must account for the promises it made to the country's young people if we are to meet the MW2063.

"This conference will bring together youth NGOs, youth activists, government officials, development partners, academia, private sector, regional and international bodies to review the state of governance and youth affairs in the country since the Tonse administration took office. I'm calling it a solution-focused conference because high-profile officials like the Minister of Finance Sosten Gwengwe will deliver the current state of the economy, and he will be the guest,” said Kajoloweka.

Some of the issues to be discussed at the conference include health, social protection, unemployment, which President Lazarus Chakwera has committed to addressing, and progress on government programmes implemented in the name of young people and the state of the economy.
