Platform for Investigative Journalism's website HACKED

MALAWI: An unknown organization has hacked the Malawian-based Platform for Investigative Journalism's website, according to a statement from the investigative media outlet.

According to a brief statement made on their Facebook page, readers cannot access the website.

"We are working with our IT team to retrieve it and resume the important work of publishing public-interest journalism. The public will be notified once we have retrieved our website," reads the statement.

On Tuesday, April 5, police in Blantyre held PIJ managing director Gregory Gondwe for around six hours, taking his smartphone and laptop, forcing him to provide his passwords, and then returning his gadgets the next day.

This was following the publication of an article by PIJ suggesting that the country's attorney general had allowed payments to a businessman for contracts that had previously been canceled due to alleged fraud.
