Police hunt for rapist-murderers of 107-year-old woman in Nsanje
Nsanje police hunt for rapist-murderers of 107-year-old woman in Nkhundi village, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Nsanje, Malawi-The police in Nsanje have launched a manhunt for unidentified assailants who raped and murdered a 107-year-old woman in Nkhundi village, in the area of Senior Chief Malemia in the district, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
The deceased has been identified as Mashitela Jackson.
District Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sub-Inspector Agnes Zalakoma, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred on the night of April 19th to 20th, 2023.
The matter was brought to light by Epulo Katamangozo, who reported that his mother was found lying dead in her house after an attack by unidentified thugs.
"Detectives from Nsanje Police Station, in the company of medical personnel, rushed to the scene, who confirmed the death," said Zalakoma.
"It was discovered that she had been raped, and due to her age, she could not withstand the force of the rape. Reasons behind the killing are yet to be established."
The police are appealing to the communities around Nsanje to assist them with any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with many expressing their shock and sadness at the brutal and senseless attack on an elderly woman.
