POLICE IG FOR FEMALE OFFICERS' DISCIPLINE

MALAWI: The Malawi Police Inspector General (IG) Dr.George Kainja has called on female law enforcers to embrace high self-esteem to avoid giving room for sexual abuse.

The Police Chief made the call at the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe during the meeting with the new leaders for National Police Women Network.

Dr. Kainja urged the new leaders of the network to avoid underestimating themselves thinking that senior male officers are the ones that can help them to thrive during their work service.

Kainja said, “Most women have low self-esteem and think they cannot excel in the service without the help of a senior male officer, but it's a tendency that a lot of female officers tend to have an inferiority complex."

He added that the motive behind the introduction of the women's platform was to ensure gender equality and women empowerment hence his administration will help the grouping with financial resources.

On his part, Deputy Inspector General responsible for administration Mrs. Merlyn Yolamu challenged the female officers to be disciplined all times to reclaim the good public's image which is the bedrock of policing.

She then condemned acts of having sexual relationships with senior officers in exchange for favours, but rather urged female officers to upgrade their studies to gain higher positions in the service.

The new women platform executive committee was elected last month at Police Cottage in the district of Mangochi.
