Police, prison officers team up to enhance security in Chikwawa

Malawi: Chikwawa police and prison officers have asked members of the public to report any suspicious people or activities in order to make the district crime-free.

The men in uniform issued the call when the two security departments joined forces for a solidarity walk.

During the big walk, the uniformed men discussed security precautions.

Senior Superintendent Newton Mathanga, Station Officer for Chikwawa Police Station, explained to community members at Thabwa and Dyeratu trading centres that the purpose of the solidarity walk was to provide them with a mechanism for reporting criminal activities in their society and to assure them that the security departments will always be available to provide them with good services.

In his turn, Malawi Prison Service Senior Superintendent Francis Kwapata stated that the prison, as a reformatory institution, will always strive to keep and reform all convicts in order to build a better nation.

Chikwawa Police, through its community policing department, has been building relationships with citizens through various modes of crime prevention trials, such as radio programmes and community policing meetings.
