President Chakwera honours 20 outstanding Malawians
Chakwera stated that this award does not mean that these are the only Malawians who have rendered outstanding service to the country, but rather a representation.
Malawi: President Lazarus Chakwera honoured 20 Malawians who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve their country in various sectors such as education, arts, agriculture, ICT, and young entrepreneurs, to name a few, on July 1, 2022, at Kamuzu Palace.
Chakwera stated that this award does not mean that these are the only Malawians who have rendered outstanding service to the country, but rather a representation of the type of service that we should celebrate and comment on. Also, the awardees were encouraged to recognise others on their platforms.
"With this recognition, you have been given much, and much more is expected of you, and one of the things we expect of you is that you will also follow this example by using your platform to recognise others who are also doing great things for this country,” he elaborated.
Michael Usi, Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Culture, stated that this award is very important because it motivates and encourages other people to pursue their dreams.
"This award is crucial because we all know that "Zikomo" means "Thank you." It motivates and encourages others who may not want or be encouraged to enter that type of field. So Zikomo is a motivator, a call to come and contribute to our country's development "he stated.
Dr Rachel Sibande, Founder of Malawi First Technology Hub (mHub), who was among the awardees, stated that being recognised by the state president is an encouragement that as a person working in the ICT sector, she should continue to enhance the development of this country by not only empowering young people with digital skills but also investing in young innovative entrepreneurs.
