According to Tupeliwe Kabwilo, the public relations officer for Rumphi police, Yohane Mkandawire, 23, and Nelson Mkandawire, 19, were apprehended on the night of February 15, 2023, in Bale Hill.
" The two suspects have been charged with Trafficking in Persons, while the seven Ethiopian nationals found with them have been charged with illegal entry into the country," Kabwilo stated.
During the arrest, Teshel Ayel, 21, and six other Ethiopian nationals were found hidden in a curve, with the two suspects among them.
Kabwilo emphasized the importance of community collaboration in the fight against human trafficking.
"We appeal to community members to continue working together in order to deal with this malpractice. We encourage good citizens to report whenever they see strange faces in their areas," she stated.
The two Malawian suspects hail from Mhungulu Village under Traditional Authority Mwankhunikira in Rumphi.
They will appear in court to face the charges against them, along with the seven Ethiopian nationals.
