Salima Council leads environmental conservation efforts

Salima District Council has begun interventions to preserve and conserve the district's environment.

Malawi: Salima District Council has begun interventions to preserve and conserve the district's environment.

During a biodiversity mapping meeting, Salima District Commissioner Grace Chirwa stated that the council is more than willing to collaborate with various environmental stakeholders.

"As a council, we are so proud and grateful for stakeholders like Assemblies of God Care (AG Care), who are doing everything they can to champion environmental conservation issues through their project called Conserve," said Chirwa.

She also urged all stakeholders and partners to follow AG Care's lead in promoting forest reserves and parks.

"I would like to appeal to all development stakeholders to join special interventions like those in Thuma Forest and Kuti Wild Reserve in engaging communities in environmental protection and conservation," Chirwa said.

Speaking on the sidelines of environmental conservation programmes, the Organization's Programs Manager, Daves Mtoseni, stated that they will do everything possible to ensure the empowerment and improvement of the lives of the people in the district.

He also stated that they are carrying out numerous interventions to raise environmental awareness in the district.

Mtoseni went on to say that they are also collaborating with various government and non-government environmental stakeholders to protect natural resources.

"We are counting on various stakeholders, such as the forestry and agricultural department, Wild Life and Parks, WESM, and FRIM, to increase dissemination and raise awareness on the issue of environmental and natural resource conservation," Mtoseni explained.

Commenting on the same issue, Forestry Officer Maganizo Namoto of the Forestry Research Institute of Malawi urged all Salima residents to take full responsibility for conserving and preserving the environment.

He also urged all local leaders to educate their constituents about the importance of conserving and preserving forest reserves.

Salima District Council is championing environmental conservation in the district in collaboration with AG Care Malawi, Forestry Research Institute Malawi (FRIM), Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM), and Wildlife and Parks.
