Seeds of Promise eyes to support needy students

Lilongwe-based youth organization known as Seeds of Promise says it is on a mission to support needy students with tuition fees and other education needs in tertiary institutions in the country.

This, the organization says, is in a quest to help the needy students complete their education and remain self-reliant in future.

Speaking on the sidelines of fundraising walk and run which was organized by Seeds of Promise in Lilongwe on Saturday, the organization’s Executive Director (ED) Maclean Onsewa said that they are currently raising funds to support youthful needy students at African Bible College (ABC) and University of Livingstonia (UNILIA).

“We have identified some young needy students at ABC and UNILIA, and currently we are raising money to support these students with tuition fees so that they should complete their education and have something to do that would enable them remain financially independent,” Onsewa said.

He added that the funds which they are raising will also be used to buy computers and sewing machines for capacity building trainings which his organization is doing for the youth.

According to the ED, Seeds of Promise, which was established in 2017, is mainly aiming at helping to fight poverty in the country.

“The main aim of our organization is to help fighting extreme poverty through various programs including promoting sustainable farming and providing entrepreneurship trainings among the youth in Malawi,” he said.

In his remarks, Minister of Youth and Sports, Ulemu Msungama applauded Seeds of Promise for its initiative.

“The organization is doing good initiative as it is mainly looking at the welfare of young people in the country by giving them hope for their future.

“Further, we cannot talk of brighter future without talking of education; hence, I am extremely excited that the organization is also focusing on promoting education among the youth and this is welcomed gesture to my ministry,” Msungama said.

The fundraising walk and run was conducted from The Gateway Mall in Lilongwe to Mbavi Airwing road and back, and the program featured bicycle cycling, aerobics, acrobatics and fitness dancing performances by the youth.
