Southern Region Water Board to increase water tariffs
The Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) says it will be increasing water tariffs in view of the increase in production cost
MALAWI: The Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) says it will be increasing water tariffs in view of the increase in production cost, calling on citizens to change their mindsets and start conserving water.
The remarks were made during an interface meeting between the board, civil society organizations, and journalists in Zomba as the utility tries to increase service delivery to its customers.
According to the board chair for the water board, Ibrahim Matola said they are planning to increase the water tariff due to the increase in production and supplies globally.
“ The SRWB tariffs were last reviewed in the 2018/19 financial year, and we decided to raise the tariff in order to continue providing good potable water to our customers,” said Matola.
John Kapito, Executive Director for Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) said, “It is justifiable for the board to raise the water tariff taking into consideration various factors such as the depreciation of the Kwacha.”
