Speaker encourages women participation in Entrepreneurship

Malawi: Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has urged female youths to focus on entrepreneurship rather than relying solely on government or private institutions for employment, writes Judgement Katika.

On the sidelines of the launch of NGE Lipstick, a brand named after a song by Dr Patience Namadingo in Lilongwe on Friday, Gotani said that entrepreneurship is the only way to help those who are innovative and be a part of the development by employing others.

She stated that the development agenda 2063 can also be achieved through the same entrepreneurship.

She went on to say that without patience and experience, no one can achieve their goals, and she encourages people in the country to support one another.

She went on to say that every Malawian should embrace Malawian products.

On her behalf, Omega Nankhuni, the founder of Omega Cosmetics, stated that she has been working hard to create NGE Lipstick since she began with one colour and now has more colours.

She also stated that she encountered numerous challenges, including production delays caused by Covid 19.

She added that she is pleased to see people welcoming the product.

Dr Namadingo, for his part, expressed delight that people recognised his songs in new ways, and that the NGE song has evolved into branding.

Nankhuni, an American-based businesswoman, founded her company in 2014, and she has worked with companies that manufacture cosmetics, such as lipsticks, and she saw a gap in the industry, primarily among women of colour who require cosmetics that match their skin tone.

Meanwhile, countries like Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia are interested in NGE lipstick.
