St Peters Youth Org donates 1500 trees to school
St Peters Youth Org gives 1500 trees to Magalamula Private Secondary School for sustainable environmental conservation, urges collaboration with community, Alinafe Nyanda.
Malawi-St Peters Youth Organisation has donated 1500 trees to Magalamula Private Secondary School, located in the area of traditional authority Tsabango, to enhance sustainable environmental conservation in Malawi, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Lilongwe, organization executive director Brian Kuntindi stated that the donation will help achieve the organization's objectives towards addressing climate change.
"As an organization, we decided to embark on this initiative due to natural disasters happening in Malawi and our objective of addressing environmental issues. We came here to plant trees in a quest to help the community avoid natural disasters," said Kuntindi.
The trees were procured with support from a German-based organization under the Tree for Tree project, aimed at strengthening environmental conservation in traditional authorities Tsabango and Kalumbu.
Kuntindi urged the school to collaborate with the local community on environmental prevention programs to promote the initiative.
Magalamula Private Secondary School teacher, Elliot Charles Kanjewula, commended St Peters and its partners for the timely donation, stating it will assist in achieving the institution's objective of providing comprehensive environmental services to the community.
Kanjewula also advised staff, learners, and the community to use the donation responsibly for its intended purposes.
Based in Area 23, St Peters Youth Organization works to prevent and respond to climate change by collaborating with policymakers, justice systems, and environmental systems and eliminating harmful practices, such as cutting down trees aimlessly.
