It is with deep sadness that we announce the unfortunate demise of Mr. Daniel Msonda, UNFPA staff in Myanmar, on 18 July 2020, in Nay Pyi Taw.
Mr. Msonda, a Malawian national, first came to Myanmar as UNFPA staff in 2013. A distinguished demographic expert, he played a lead role in advising the Government of Myanmar on Census and population level data collection, analysis and use. A soft-spoken individual, Dan was well regarded within the UN and international community, and among national counterparts who will all miss his friendly approach and calming influence.
As a mark of respect to our departed colleague, the UN flag to be flown at half-mast from 19 to 21 July.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dan’s family, friends and colleagues at this moment. May he rest in peace.
