Stray lions causing panic in Chitipa
Stray lions are still terrorising the people of Misuku in Chitipa district by devouring livestock.
Malawi: Stray lions are still terrorising the people of Misuku in Chitipa district by devouring livestock, writes By Victor Musongole.
According to reports from the area, lions took goats from Chiyughu village in the Chanya area in the early hours of Thursday.
Traditional Authority Mwenemisuku stated that the presence of Lions in the area has caused panic among the people, who are unable to work in their fields peacefully.
"People are living in fear here because they can't go to their farms until 9:00 a.m., and they have to go in groups; other economic activities have been impacted here," said the traditional leader.
"People are failing to move from various areas in Misuku Hills people are failing to move from Chinongo, Mwandima to Misuku trading to name a few, but we are happy that the government sent Rangers here even though they have yet to tame these animals," Mwenemisuku stated.
Michael Usi, Minister of Tourism, told parliament earlier this week that his ministry had received reports about the stray lions.
Usi assured the area's Member of Parliament, Kezzie Msukwa, that his ministry had already dispatched game rangers to hunt for the animals.
