Stroke Support Organization of Malawi urges people to seek early medical help 

Stroke Support Organization of Malawi Executive Secretary has urged people to rush to the hospital whenever they have signs of stroke such as failing to raise their hands higher, feeling pain on one side of their body, not being able to produce a clear sound and deformation of their lips to get treatment fast.

Dr. George Chimaliro said this on Friday as the world commemorated World Stroke Day, which mainly aims at raising awareness about the stroke burden and serious nature and high rates of stroke.

During the event, the Stroke Support Organization of Malawi joined hands with other local organizations in raising awareness about the stroke burden and serious nature and high rates of stroke talks on ways in which can help reduce the burden of stroke risk factors and signs of stroke.

Dr. Chimaliro said, “We’re going to have main activities in Blantyre on Saturday 30th October, which will include a big walk from Kachere Rehabilitation Center to Chichiri Roundabout and back to Kachere where the rest of the activities will continue.”

Dr. Chimaliro also recommended Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for the establishment of the department of stroke to help in assisting stroke patients and he urged the government to consider establishing stroke units in all hospitals in Malawi.
