Traditional Authority Makoko in Nsanje Urges Faster Secondary School Construction, Citing Travel Distance for Children, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
NSANJE, Malawi-Traditional Authority (T/A) Makoko in Nsanje has called on authorities to expedite the construction of a secondary school in his area, citing the long distances children have to travel to access secondary education, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
T/A Makoko expressed his concerns during an interview on Monday, stating that his subjects are eagerly awaiting the completion of the project.
"The place for the secondary school has been identified, and the communities have welcomed the project. We are prepared to contribute towards the construction of the secondary school in my area," said T/A Makoko.
Councillor for Tchekelere Ward, Mike Kafalachi, echoed the chief's sentiments, stating that the secondary school will be built at Bambala.
Borniface Chimpokosera, Chair of the Nsanje District Education Service Committee, confirmed that his committee is aware of the project, which is currently in progress.
He also revealed that the district has been allocated seven new secondary schools to be constructed in Nsanje.
Chimpokosera stated, "The ministry officials were in the district visiting several places where they intend to sink the schools. We are awaiting their feedback on when the projects will commence."
