Three individuals, Loti Wilson, Kelvin Kandulu, and Kalijo Antony, have been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking for allegedly smuggling 12 Malawians to South Africa.

Malawi: Three individuals, Loti Wilson, Kelvin Kandulu, and Kalijo Antony, have been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking for allegedly smuggling 12 Malawians to South Africa, writes Kondwani Nyondo.

According to a statement from the Malawi police, the suspects were arrested separately between December 21 and 22, after the authorities received a tip that the victims were being kept in a room in Masokosa village near the Mwanza border.

Upon receiving the tip, the police conducted a raid on the house and rescued the 12 victims, who are all from the Mangochi district.

The suspects will soon face charges of human trafficking in court.

The draft National Migration Policy of Malawi has reported a rise in the number of cases of migrants, including children, being smuggled from or through Malawi to South Africa.
