Malawi-A three-year-old baby drowned in a well in the area of Senior Chief Mwaulambia in Chitipa district, on February 17, 2023, while following her mother, who was fetching water from a borehole, writes Tionge Hara.
Chitipa Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Sergeant Rabson Mkandawire confirmed the incident, stating that Florence Ngonya accidentally fell into a well close to their dwelling house.
Postmortem results indicated that the death was due to suffocation.
The police are appealing to all parents and guardians to leave children under the supervision of mature individuals to avoid such deaths.
