TUM Donates Food Items Worth K4 Million to Cyclone-Affected Teachers in Nsanje

NSANJE, Malawi - The Malawi Teachers Union (TUM) has donated K4 million in food items to 73 teachers in Nsanje who were affected by tropical cyclone Freddy earlier this month, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
The donation was made by Christopher Siyanyalo, TUM Governor for the South West Education Division (SWED), on Tuesday at Mpatsa Primary School in the district.
"The aim of our coming to Nsanje was to cheer and give support materially and morally to the affected teachers because the cyclone did not spare them," said Siyanyalo.
"TUM is equally shocked by how teachers have been hit by the cyclone and have lost their properties. TUM has decided to come forward with the least amount of materials we have sourced to reach out to the teachers."
Nsanje District TUM Chief Jussa Mintrozo praised the SWED team for saving the trapped teachers.
He expressed regret that the beneficiary list created by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) did not include teachers.
"Teachers, like any other people, have been severely hit by the floods, hence the need to be treated equally," said Mintrozo.
The donation from TUM is expected to provide much-needed relief to the affected teachers in Nsanje, who have been struggling to recover from the effects of Cyclone Freddy.
