Two brothers arrested for robbery in Mzimba
The brothers had been operating a taxi, child-locking the doors and robbing passengers in Nkhata Bay, Rumphi, Mzimba, and Mzuzu.
Malawi: Mzimba Police have arrested two brothers, Blessings and Chimwemwe Chiumia, aged 22, for robbery, writes Tionge Hara.
The brothers had been operating a taxi, child-locking the doors and robbing passengers in Nkhata Bay, Rumphi, Mzimba, and Mzuzu.
According to Sub Inspector Peter Botha, spokesperson for the Mzimba Police, the brothers were arrested at a police roadblock in Raiply after a passenger reported being robbed.
Two cell phones and two purses, including a purse with K35,000, and a Tecno Spark 4 smartphone, have been recovered and positively identified by their owners.
As investigations continue, police are searching for a suspect known as Bwito who escaped during the arrest.
The Chiumia brothers will appear in court soon to face charges of robbery.
The public is advised to be vigilant when boarding taxis. The Chiumia brothers are from Chigwere Village in the Traditional Authority of Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba District.
