Two killed in Karonga road accident
The accident occurred on the afternoon of December 14, 2022, in Tenenthe Hills, Karonga District, along the Chitipa-Karonga M26 Road.
Malawi: A driver and one student from Faith Private Secondary School in Chitipa have been killed, while eight other female students from the same school escaped with minor injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in from the district to Karonga was involved in a road accident, writes Tionge Hara.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of December 14, 2022, in Tenenthe Hills, Karonga District, along the Chitipa-Karonga M26 Road.
Karonga Police spokesperson Sergeant George Mulewa said the driver was a 32-year-old Lusubilo Karambo from Mwangolera Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kyungu, and the other deceased girl is Lilian Mkandawire,19 from Mwamusaku Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kilupula, both in Karonga District.
According to investigations, said Sergeant Mulewa, the said driver lost control of the vehicle after one of the front tyres burst, causing the vehicle to overturn twice.
Karambo and Mkandawire were pronounced dead at Karonga District Hospital after suffering internal and head injuries, respectively, while the other eight girls who escaped with varying degrees of injuries are being treated at the same facility.
